I first started yoga at around 32 weeks pregnant, I had never done yoga in my life and was so nervous about attending.
Tessa welcomed me and made me feel comfortable straight away, having that 1 hour a week for me and baby to relax is what I needed more than I knew.
I really enjoyed the classes, I always felt calm and relaxed afterwards, they helped me physically & mentally. I already have a little boy and my first labour was long and painful I had no idea what to expect.
This time round I wanted to be in control. I had my birth preferences and practiced yoga at home to help with my aches and pains (mainly pelvis) by week 35 my pelvic pain had gone completely.
Our baby was born 6 days past his due date, there was talk from midwives to be induced (which I really didn’t want) but after a sweep 40+5 at 3pm I knew labour was starting (ouch, it was a good sweep) but I was not worried one bit.
At 01:30am my contractions started. I arrived at Burnley for 05:30am and the midwife told me I was 3cm (I felt slightly disheartened as I was sure I had progressed more at home) oh well, we weren’t going back home!!
One amazing technique was the breathing Tessa had taught in yoga, I felt in control of every contraction and the pain felt minimal. At 08:20am my waters had broke as I was just about to step into the pool and at 8:57am our beautiful boy Jorge was born.
I can’t believe how quick my labour went, I believe staying calm and focusing on my breathing while rocking on the birth ball helped my labour progress.
Both of my amazing midwives said I “breathed the baby out”. Later that day at 16:00 we were back at home as a family of 4.
I can’t thank Tessa enough for helping me take control of my pregnancy and labour, I would recommend pregnancy yoga to any expectant mother. I can’t wait to start baby yoga soon with Jorge and I hope to remain a yogi. ✨
