POSITIVE BIRTH STORY - Jen & Seb

Updated: May 16, 2022

Jen & Seb 💛 Positive Birth Story ✨

My labour contractions started on Friday at 8pm & were bearable with the help of the shower. I managed to get a few hours sleep on Friday night & by Saturday morning it seemed to have slowed down a bit so I went through some of the yoga moves that Tessa had advocated to help speed up labour, then we went for a walk.

Throughout Saturday the contractions we’re getting stronger and closer together - I used the golden thread breathing from yoga to help stay calm as well as counting my breaths - knowing that by the time I got to breath 8 the contractions would ease off.

At 4am my waters went and contractions were about 4 mins apart so we headed to the hospital. I was offered Pethidine in order to be able to get some sleep as I was 3cm dilated.

Although this took the edge off the pain I wasn’t able to sleep so at 6am they let me get in the pool. The midwife noticed quite a bit of blood & so checked me again and said I was fully dilated (which was apparently extremely quick for a first time).

Being in the pool was helpful to relax & get into the rhythm of moving & pushing with the contractions.

At 8am the midwife wanted to examine me again as I was losing quite a bit of blood. Once on the bed I found pushing was easier squatting at the side holding onto Ben (just like we’d practiced in class).

Seb was born at 8.50am.

Throughout labour, the breathing and relaxation techniques that Tessa teaches in the class were amazing & came naturally after attending so many sessions 💛
